Tom Jacobs, director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT) at the University of Maryland recently appeared on NewsTalk with Bruce DePuyt, TBD News Channel 8, to talk about the region?s response to the snowstorm on January 26, 2011 and specifically, what actions transportation agencies are taking to respond to major regional events impacting the traveling public.  Tom talked about how a new regional facility operated by the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination (MATOC) is assisting with coordination and communication amongst regional transportation centers run by the Departments of Transportation and WMATA.  MATOC is a partnership of the Maryland State Highway Administration, District Department of Transportation, Virginia Department of Transportation, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and the Transportation Planning Board at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.  The MATOC operations facility is collocated with the Capital Wireless Information Net (CapWIN) office in Greenbelt, Maryland, and both MATOC and CapWIN are directly supported by the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology.
