Professor Allen P. Davis, who holds the Charles A. Irish Sr. Chair in Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD), is the 2025 recipient of the Urban Water Resources Research Council Founders’ Award, presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI).
The award honors the founders of the EWRI’s Urban Water Resources Research Council (UWRRC), which brings together pioneers in the fields of urban water management and stormwater research. According to the UWRRC, the award “may be made annually to an individual for notable contributions that have served to advance engineering and science in the field of urban water resources research.”
“The contributions of the Founders to the science are timeless and their creation of the Council encouraged the research, engineering, and regulatory community to reach new heights of understanding of urban water resources,” the organization said.
The award was presented at the 2025 Congress in Anchorage, Alaska. Professor Davis also presented the Founder’s Award Lecture on May 20.
A UMD faculty member since 1989, Davis is associate chair for faculty development and advancement at the civil and environmental engineering department. Co-author of the book Green Stormwater Infrastructure Fundamentals and Design, he has served as editor of the Journal of Sustainable Water in the Built Environment since 2014. UMD named him a Distinguished Scholar Teacher in 2022.
