Caroline  Kahl is the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Senior Award, which is presented each year to a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement.

A graduating senior on the geotechnical and structural track, Caroline has served this year as the Secretary for the Maryland Beta Chapter of the National Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi. She has also been active in Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor Society, and in the UMD student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

“Throughout my time at UMD, I have had the privilege of continuous opportunities to explore different aspects of the civil engineering field through classes and hands-on experiences,” Kahl said. “I have developed a strong passion for construction and have been fortunate to contribute to several projects through my internships. I am excited to continue my career in the construction industry after graduation as a project engineer with Whiting-Turner."

“This award is incredibly meaningful to me, as my passion for civil engineering has been with me since elementary school,” she said. “To be recognized in a field I am so passionate about is both exciting and an immense honor. It serves as a validation of the hard work and dedication that I have invested in my education at UMD and continues to motivate me to always strive for excellence in all aspects of my future including my career and personal endeavors.”
