On Friday, August 28, 2009 forty-six new students joined to learn about the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and accept the role of grad student.

The day started with a welcome from Department Chair, Dr. Ali Haghani and then the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Alba Torrents.

Students were given the opportunity to meet their peers as well as faculty, whom they bombarded with questions.

A total of 13 faculty greeted and advised new students.

Presentations by very knowledgeable UM librarians, Bob Kackley and Nevenka Zdravkovska, and university ombudsperson Joanne DeSiato were also very informative.

Current students Susmit Panjwani, Kyla Gregoire and Nasim Moghaddasi Bonab also made themselves available for questions and provided great insight into the local area, housing, budgeting and student involvement.

It was a fun and informative day.

Best wishes to all new students!
