Civil and Environmental Engineering alumni Emin Kutay and Nelson Gibson, along with co-author Jack Youtcheff, receive the Walter J. Emmons Award for the best paper presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT) held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

They presented a paper titled "Conventional and Viscoelastic Continuum Damage (VECD) Based Fatigue Analysis of Polymer Modified Asphalt Pavements."

The award will be presented at the 2009 Annual Meeting which will be held in Minneapolis, MN on March 17, 2009. The Walter J. Emmons Award is awarded annually for the best paper presented at the Annual Meeting and Technical Sessions of the AAPT.

M. Emin Kutay is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Michigan State University and Nelson Gibson is a Research Highway Engineer in the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Infrastructure Research and Development.
