Dr. Steven A. Gabriel led a group of students from the Master of Engineering and Public Policy /School of Public Policy students to Germany this past January for a course (PUAF 689M) on  linear programming with applications in energy and water markets. The collaborative course included an intensive week on modeling in College Park followed by a second week in Berlin and other parts of Germany combined with German students and faculty from the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) to discuss further modeling and policy issues in energy and water.   In addition to coursework at TU Berlin, the group participated in excursions to the Jänschwalde power plant and related lignite mine, Vattenfall CCS plant,  Wendefurth and Rappbode dams, and Wienrode water treatment plant.  See the attached photo for the class participants as well as http://mepp.umd.edu/research/berlin_1.html for more photos.
