ABSTRACT
The Cheonggyecheon restoration project is a globally-recognized example of urban river revitalization and sustainable urban planning. This project, completed in 2005, transformed a neglected and heavily polluted waterway buried under a congested elevated highway into a vibrant, eco-friendly public space. Cheonggyecheon’s restoration not only revitalized a polluted waterway but also demonstrated the importance of integrating environmental, cultural, and social values into urban infrastructure development.
In this seminar, Dr. Kim, who served as a member of the design team, will explain how the project was initiated and executed. Additionally, the value of the monumental project will be highlighted by showcasing both past and current views of the district along the restored stream.
